1. Mallnitz, Austria

You are probably not familiar with the picturesque village of Mallnitz, Austria. But you are in for quite a pleasant surprise. The village is nestled within Austria's Hohe Taurern National Park, the largest national park in Central Europe (1,800 square miles). You are surrounded on all sides by impressive mountain peaks and the largest glaciers in the Eastern Alps. The scent and feeling of "freshness" is everywhere - in pure crisp air, a sky for stargazers, clear water streams teeming with trout, and roaring waterfalls that fall into pristine meadow lakes. In 2017, the WHO awarded Mallnitz the distinction of "Health Village". As a member of the "Alpine Pearls", Mallnitz is enveloped in pure alpine nature, committed to sustainable, nature friendly, ecological tourism. In Mallnitz there are only 1,200 year round residents and the horses roam free in the pasture.

Mallnitz is located in Austria's southern-most region of Carinthia, which is north of Italy and Slovenia. Direct train service makes this location convenient - 3 1/2 hours from the Munich main station and 1 3/4 hours from Salzburg.

The Hotel Alber is a 4 star 1st class family owned & operated fitness focused hotel with more than 110 years of traditional hospitality and outdoor enjoyment. Beautiful Austrian wood decor in the lobby, large rooms with all the desired amenities, four-course freshly prepared meals, a wellness area with various saunas, whirlpool, wellness cabin, fitness room and a private backyard for afternoon sunning. Upon arrival you'll be treated to a welcome cocktail.

Your stay begins with a sumptuous breakfast of homemade and local products and followed in the afternoon with a snack of coffee and cake for all hotel guests. The evening offers a 4 course dinner which always includes a vegetarian choice and weekly special buffets such as hors d'oeuvres, and desserts. Once during the week there will be a Gala candle light dinner with piano music. There will also be a musical evening with live music in the "Almstube".

Three guided hikes are led during the week by Klaus Alber, a highly experienced international mountain guide who is familiar with every trail, flower and rock in the region.

NATIONAL PARK KARNTEN CARD is included during your stay and includes free: "High Roads at High Altitude" (excl. Road of the Grossglockner), ski lifts, Bios National Park Center (Mallnitz), 100+ trips and excursions, including "Panning for Gold".

For a seven night experience in Mallnitz from June 11th until October 4th, the price is $880. pp double and $980. single. A minimum of three nights is available for $380.double and $440 single. Arrival is possible any day of the week during the season.

5. World Heritage Hiking Tour of the Salzkammergut, Austria

Since December 1997 the "Hallstatt-Dachstein / Salzkammergut" region in Austria has joined the list of the UNESCO World Cultural Heritage Sites.  UNESCO designated a large part of this region as a World Heritage worthy of preservation due to its unique and beautuful landscape and all their cultural activities - 76 lakes with crystal clear water, rich green alps, impressive rock faces up to 3,000 meters high, as well as the Dachstein Glacier.  This tour has it all - lakes, well-marked trails and charming villages.

A combination village-to-village tour with multiple day stays in quaint villages allows the visitor to experience the best of this region.  Hiking days average three hours and overnights will be in the villages of Abersee, Bad Ischl, and Bad Goisern.

6. Wildschoenau, Austria
.....Hiking the Romantic Wildschoenau Valley


To spend a vacation in the Wildschoenau in Austria is to experience a lush valley whose people have kept alive many customs, long forgotten in other places. Known for its wild beauty, this valley embodies "pristine" Alpine living.

This valley was practically cut off from the outside world until the end of the 19th century, accessible only with difficulty over the mountains. Today all of that has changed with the modern road from Woergl into the Wildschoenau valley. This tour is based in the village of Oberau, where the true history of the Wildschoenau community began. A hiker's paradise, with over 180 miles of maintained hiking and walking trails for every difficulty level.

Guided hikes are offered in three categories, ranging from 2-3 hours to over 4 hours with the demanding mountain hike choice. Waiting for you at the end of the day is the Hotel Tirolerhof with all of their Tyrolean hospitality.
