SOLDEN, Austria
"On the Trail of the Iceman"
| Solden, Austria set the scene in
1991 for the most stunning discovery of the 20th century -- a 5,300 year old man frozen in
time, now known as the Iceman. Austrians call him "Oetzi" after the Oetztal
(Oetz Valley) where the Neolithic man was found frozen in the Similaun Glacier.
Fifty-three centuries passed, a warm spell caused the ice to melt, and the Iceman became
"the face" of 1992 on the cover of TIME Magazine. Wanderweg Holidays takes you
on the trail of the Iceman to the village of Solden, located about 2 hours from Innsbruck
in the lush Oetztal, the valley where "Oetzi" was found. Situated at 4,500 feet
on the banks of the Oetztal river, Solden is your home base where you stay at the first
class Hotel Solderhof. |
