4. AUSTRIAN HIKING
ALTERNATIVES |

In the nearly three decades that Wanderweg Holidays has
been offering affordable hiking vacations in Austria and
Switzerland, we’ve had the good fortune to become acquainted
with a few outstanding tour operators who offer high quality
tours as a complement to our hiking programs. Here are a few of
the possibilities which we endorse:
Taste of the Grape – Austrian Style:
If you’ve never tasted Austrian wines, it’s
time to try them on this “tour of tastes”. This unique tour will
give the traveler a chance to taste wines from several wine
regions of Austria such as the Danube River Valley (Wachau) and
the Kamp River Valley; the hills surrounding Vienna in the
south; Vienna itself (the only capital in Europe that has
ancient vineyards within its city limits and wonderful wines
such as Gruner Veltliner, a delicate dry white wine grown only
in Vienna!) and the Burgenland (most Eastern province). As
Austrian food specialists, Herzerl Tours understands that
the regional cuisines truly complement the taste and the “nose”
of the different wines.
The tour price includes accommodations in a
four star hotel with daily buffet breakfast; transportation
(depending which program selected) for all excursions and
transfers; private sightseeing tour in Vienna with guide; and
all wine tasting listed in the program. The tour is offered as a
walking tour and/or driving tour and is offered by Herzerl Tours.

BIERFEST:
A tour for beer lovers who like to mix
their beer with culture! Sample beer tastes from famous
breweries in Austria, Czech Republic and Germany such as
Augustiner Brau, Pilsner and Hofbrau. The coach tour begins in
Frankfurt, Germany for a guided hops & malt adventure. First
stop is in Bayreuth, home of composer Richard Wagner and famous
for great beer. Then into the Czech Republic to Pilsen for a
tasting of their world famous beer. On to the glorious city of
Prague and then to Ceske Budejovice (formerly Budweis). The tour
moves into Salzburg, Austria for more sightseeing and beer
tasting in this enchanting Baroque city. Finally, the tour
travels back to Germany with a stop in Berchtesgarden, the
famous Monastery Andechs and to Munich to visit the Oktoberfest
grounds for lunch and beer tasting. What a perfect ending for
this tour! The tour is offered by Herzerl Tours. Contact them at

A TASTE OF VIENNA AND VENICE:
Be a trend setter and submerge yourself in
the cuisine from both European cities! The Venetian cuisine,
while truly Italian, still has a smattering flavor of the
Viennese, left over from the times of the Austrian monarchy. And
the Viennese cuisine is a true conglomerate of cuisines dating
back to the days of the monarchy, but more delicate. A well
balanced blend of flavor and culture!
Travelers attend cooking schools in both
cities and learn hands-on how to prepare and then feast on local
dishes. They visit produce and fish markets, travel to wineries
to experience local wines and round out the sensory experience
with city sight-seeing tours by coach, boat or on foot. Indulge
yourself in this culinary tour of a lifetime! The tour is being offered by Herzerl Tours.
